Kayak Instruction - Rescue Pool Session

2-hour pool rescue session to give participants the skills to manage a capsize situation. This sessions focuses on wet exit and recovery skills.

It is import for all kayakers, no matter what their paddling aspirations, to be able to manage a capsize situation. This Rescue Pool Session will teach you the skills to be proficient at deep-water
kayak wet exit and recovery.  We private hire an indoor-heated swimming pool for this session so you can learn these skills in a comfortable and safe environment. 

This 2-hour rescue session is conducted on the Friday evening before our Introduction to Sea Kayaking session on the Saturday. You can attend just this rescue pool session, but it is prerequisite of the Introduction to Sea Kayaking that all participants have completed a rescue pool session.

Roaring 40°s Kayaking will provide Instructors, kayaks and equipment for all participants for this session.

This session will introduce you to the basic techniques and safety aspects of sea kayaking.

This is a 3-hour session introducing you to the basic techniques and safety aspects of sea kayaking. If you are looking for a good foundation in the skills essential for safe and enjoyable kayaking, this is the course for you. 

Note: It is a prerequisite of this course to have completed a Rescue Pool Session.

Topics covered include:   

  • Correct posture, balance and kayak adjustment  
  • Essential safety equipment   
  • Launching and landing your sea kayak
  • Efficient forward paddling
  • Manoeuvring strokes (reverse paddling, turning, supporting)
  • Identifying and avoiding hazardous situations

Cost: $95 pp or $80 pp with your own sea kayak

Improve your skills and confidence in challenging kayaking conditions with this full day of intermediate kayaking skills training.

A full day of intermediate kayaking skills and fun to improve your skills and confidence for more challenging kayaking conditions.

The day focuses on skills for paddling a sea kayak efficiently in a wide range of conditions and learning safe and effective balance recovery techniques. Improved technique will also reduce the change of injury and see you get maximum health and fitness benefits from you paddling adventures.

Topics covered include:

  • Body rotation to develop a powerful paddle stroke
  • Edging to maintain kayak control in adverse conditions
  • Balance recovery techniques (or braces)
  • Wet exit and self rescue techniques

Cost: $190 pp or $170 pp with your own sea kayak

Our Eskimo rolling sessions are conducted in the warm and comfortable environment of an indoor heated swimming pool. With good instruction the skills to master the Eskimo roll are easier than you think.

The Eskimo roll is the ultimate kayaking skill. While learning to Eskimo roll isn’t necessary to safely enjoy sea kayaking, it will greatly improve your confidence in challenging conditions.  Our Eskimo rolling sessions are conducted in the warm and comfortable environment of an indoor heated swimming pool where our priority is your safety. With good instruction the skills to master the Eskimo roll are easier than you think, so why not learn now and enjoy taking your kayaking to the next level.
